How to make trampt better!

Hi guys,

first of all I have to say I love trampt! It looks awesome and hits all my interests in the right spot. Nevertheless there are a lot of features missing on trampt.

I know there is this getsatisfaction thingy were we can request features and suggest modifications that we would like to see but to be honest: I am lazy! I don't like to switch to another site get used to another forumstyle community when we have a perfectly working conversation feature right here.

So my suggestion is: Why don't pin a static conversation on top of the conversations area called "How to make trampt better!?"

There we could post feature requests and blake and keegan could directly comment the requests right there.

What do you guys think?

It would be great for verified artists to receive notifications when someone adds a piece credited to them or starts a conversation on one of their pieces. It would really help encourage artists to be more active in these aspects.

i have a bit of an idea. So if you are on an artists profile, when you click on say a toy or print or whatever there should be a "next" button. So you can just go to the next pice would out needing to go back to the profile page.

crazylikeafox11 m That'd be cool! almost 12 years ago

Keegan-trampt-1698f

keegan a Blake and I talked about that a bit. The hard part is if you filter a list of items, click on one and then try to go to the 'next' image. If it could only work sometimes we wanted to limit the functionality since it would be weird for the functionality be conditional. Though we're still looking into it. :) almost 12 years ago

Crazylikeafox11-trampt-1660f

crazylikeafox11 m I think people would still be happy if they could simply use the next feature when scrolling through the library. Anything else would just be gravy! almost 12 years ago

Merlin-trampt-770f

Merlin Yea im with JayJayfool on this one the next button would be a nice addition to the site. almost 12 years ago

Keegan-trampt-1698f

keegan a One way that could potentially handle that is an adjustment to the 'related items' bar ... if that could potentially keep place of where you were in an artists portfolio then you could easily click to the next or previous items. Definitely one of those devil in the details problems but we'll look into it. :) almost 12 years ago

I'd REALLY would like to be able to view 'areas' (artist, manufacturer, platform, etc.) by Release Date and not newest additions to the system first. I realize not everything has release dates inserted, but it might help encourage that (as would not needing to know the exact date… I think if you know the year, you should be able to add just that).

I'd like a top 10 page or some way to see the most purchased item, most wanted item, most looked at item, the stats are there, is there an easy way for us to see it in one place?  Or maybe this is already a feature and I do not see it?

Easily_Amused This could be personalized when viewing your collection with a pie graph breaking down the percent of your collection consisting of each artist or showing the value of your collection divided by artist/piece... Statusquo-trampt-493f

statusquo I knew that was there, but it isn't rank ordered. You click on "most wanted" and it gives you a bunch of items, if you start clicking on them you see #1 on the page has 42 Wants, but then the #2 next to it has 82 Wants, I'd like a list with the actual most wanted or most popular or most purchased at the top working down the list, does that make sense? Thanks! almost 12 years ago

Easily_amused-trampt-2928f

statusquo heh, SO SORRY about that! Yeah, I wish that feature was already there, I've looked and looked but sadly it is not there. :( almost 12 years ago

Spiv-trampt-2f

blake a Hey guys -- hope I can clarify. Yes, the most wanted feature does exist, and like Necktie said, it is in the sort dropdown. The reason the items Want counts dont seem to always line up is because it is not most wanted for all time, it is most wanted within the last 30 days. Otherwise, the super popular items stay at the top forever and nothing can push them out of their spots. Hope this helps. :) almost 12 years ago

Spiv-trampt-2f

blake a Also, the most popular sort takes in to account both an item's total views and "fuckin sweets". Like the "wanted" sort, it also looks at the last 30 days. almost 12 years ago

Crazylikeafox11-trampt-1660f

crazylikeafox11 m @Blake - that's good to know that the "fucking sweet" function matters in some way. I didn't realize that it adds towards an item's popularity. Good to know! almost 12 years ago

It'd be nice to have a little script pop up telling you the item name & artist when you hoover over an item in the library.  I know it tells you in the link status bar, but not everyone has the status bar enabled.  I don't know if that would conflict with the ability to use the "have, want, deal" feature though.

almost 12 years ago · Comment ·

Statusquo-trampt-493f

statusquo I vote for this one. When digging through the library and you click on something, when you try and return, the library starts over, if you were 5 pages in, you go back to page 1, annoying, but not horrible. Small popups would be great, but I'm sure that increases complexity and bandwidth for Trampt. almost 12 years ago

Keegan-trampt-1698f

keegan a I agree with @statusquo. I assume you are using Chrome like me. It's actually a glitch in Chrome, if you browse with FF or IE it actually keeps your place in the autoloading of items. The key is trying to work in another hover state on top of the Have/Want/Deal hover state which would be awkward. almost 12 years ago

Statusquo-trampt-493f

statusquo Yes, I use Chrome, I guess I could use Firefox...... Thanks for responding! almost 12 years ago

Crazylikeafox11-trampt-1660f

crazylikeafox11 m @keegan - Yeah, I thought it might be kind of awkward b/c of the options to easily add it to you have/ wants but thought I'd throw it out there. It'd be cool if it could be eventually be worked in, but by no means a necessity. almost 12 years ago

Keegan-trampt-1698f

keegan a I actually created a way of doing this for a client where there is a timed bar if you hover over for two seconds that would then load and show a tool tip so it didn't instantly popped up as you move your mouse almost 12 years ago

Another feature i'd like to see is a gallery for every portfolio where we could for example:

- show of the display of our collection (personal portfolio)

- show pictures from a release party etc. (event portfolio)

- show pictures from the factory / staff etc (manufacturer portfolio)

- show prototypes, unused designs, molds etc (platform portfolio)

I for myself wouldbe very interested to see a little bit behind the scenes of this industry and I think this would be another way to keep peoples hooked on the site because there would be a lot more to discover!

This should not only be limited to the conversations area like the FAQ section but should be a overall "suggestion box". For example here are a few things i am missing on trampt / would like to see on trampt:

- Size indicator in library / overview (100%, 400%, 3'', 10'' etc.)

- Feature to find fellow collectors in my country or a specific other country

- Bookmark feature (to highlight toys i'd like to come back to, instead of using the want button, maybe a list where i can see all my "fucking sweet" likes)

- Feature to flag items/pictures that need to be cleaned up

- Area for Mods, where we can see all the flagged toys, so that we can help you guys out a little more (delete dupes etc.)

And so on :D

almost 12 years ago · Comment ·

Spiv-trampt-2f

blake a I definitely agree that we need a viewable list of all "sweet" likes. Other people have mentioned the size indicator thing before, so we will be considering ways to deliver this. The flagging feature exists and I agree we should have one option for "low quality images". almost 12 years ago

Spiv-trampt-2f

blake a Perhaps if a product is flagged this way, a "low quality" warning banner appears across the top or bottom of the image calling out to users to hunt down (or take) a better photo. almost 12 years ago

Spiv-trampt-2f

blake a As for an admin page for managing flags, we currently have this but it isn't quite "production ready" yet. Hopefully soon, so we can release it to mods. almost 12 years ago

Anyway this site is already awesome :) thanks guys!

I know I've mentioned it elsewhere (as have others), but thought I'd add it here.  Banners or buttons for forums and webpages would be good to help promote the site.  Perhaps if members wanted to make them & share, there could be a spot on the site to upload them that would provide the user with rep.

I'm really turned off by a lot of the images lately. We tried to keep the library clean, but for a while people keep posting images with backgrounds, cut of toys, even sketches of a release.

Also, there's noone trying to update older items, trying to edit missing details. maybe because you don't get as many reputation points for uploading a new (clean) image, or adding release dates etc. So I think you should look into this, I think there's still a lot of things that need to be entered into the library!

Mileszustand-trampt-200f

mileszustand m Is it more important to have millions of mp3s to which you can't listen to in a lifetime or to value the few records that you actually like and listen to? It's impossible to find new interesting artists in this mess! almost 12 years ago

Mileszustand-trampt-200f

mileszustand m For me: Quality over quantity. I stopped putting a lot of work into cleaning up the library because this work is not valued in any ways. It's easier to get in the notorious list or winning toys by uploading tons of more or less interesting "prints" or starting countless conversations without having anything interesting to say. almost 12 years ago

Mileszustand-trampt-200f

mileszustand m It really would be good to rework the reputation system a bit: Reputation for flagging dupes, cleaning up images, correcting portfolios etc. I personally am loosing interest in this plattform because of the rapid drop in quality of the content. almost 12 years ago

Easily_amused-trampt-2928f

Easily_Amused I only enter stuff into the library that I own or am interested in owning. almost 12 years ago

Crazylikeafox11-trampt-1660f

crazylikeafox11 m I've gone through and edited a lot of older stuff to make it as complete as possible. It bothers me when someone enters an item that I know was in a show and doesn't put in any information whatsoever relating to the show. I don't browse through every item to make sure it's complete, but I do on a lot of items. I double check production pieces too to make sure the right size it listed or to look up a release date. almost 12 years ago

Crazylikeafox11-trampt-1660f

crazylikeafox11 m As for removing backgrounds, I don't know how to do this either & am waiting for a Gimp tutorial. I do try to at least a crop images so there's not as much white space (which can be a pain when you have 300+ images for a single show). almost 12 years ago

Crazylikeafox11-trampt-1660f

crazylikeafox11 m Going through the library, I think I see what you're talking about with the items being entered with hardly any info... You'd think that if someone took the time to enter stuff of (presumably) an artist that they like, that they'd take the time to enter more info... As it stands, I am now researching and expanding my artist knowledge base... almost 12 years ago

Spiv-trampt-2f

blake a @mileszustand - I generally agree that "quality is better than quantity" however, I think the problem is largely an education issue. Lots of people know how to enter items, few know how to remove backgrounds or have the software for it. Currently, we do have a tutorial posted for using Photoshop to remove backgrounds (http://vimeo.com/34110798) and we will add one soon for Gimp (sorry for the delay). almost 12 years ago

Spiv-trampt-2f

blake a For someone used to the software, they can correct the backgrounds of hundreds of items within a single day, so generally we ask people to add items more and not worry about the images, and we will correct them later. I too am concerned with the image quality on the site, but this can be corrected relatively easily. almost 12 years ago

Spiv-trampt-2f

blake a I am very pleased with the amount of work users have put into the site, but I do think the image quality needs to be a joint effort by all the active users. The recent problem has likely been due to all the promotions we have run recently around gaining reputation, so people have been adding items en masse. almost 12 years ago

Spiv-trampt-2f

blake a I do not know of a way we can fix the reputation system in the short term the way you suggest because how do we grant rep for "improving images"? Just uploading an image or switching the main image does not necessarily mean an improvement... the only way to really do this would be to have Keegan & I (or the admins) "approve" new image uploads in order to grant rep, which would be a huge effort for little gains. almost 12 years ago

Mileszustand-trampt-200f

mileszustand m suggestion: new portfolio pics can be proposed rather than directly switched and either the admins approve of it, or there could be a a small preview of the new pics titled proposed pictures with a button "like better?" and if 5 users like those pics better, the pic gets switched and the proposer gets rep. almost 12 years ago

Mileszustand-trampt-200f

mileszustand m those proposal should be deletable by the uploader in case of an mistake and also visible in the feed so other users can see if someone maybe proposed a better pic for some toy that is in the library for a long time. almost 12 years ago

Deadlemming-trampt-91f

deadlemming m what I usually do is upload the new picture and keep the old anyway. even if it's just white background, the original file will stay there. it's a problem though when tere are 4 pictures, because that's the limit, so 1 has to be deleted … almost 12 years ago

Spiv-trampt-2f

blake a @mileszustand - i like your suggestion and thank you for that, but i hope you can see by the complexity of your description that this is not an easy feature to add. there are many things we hope to add to Trampt, but we are 2 guys and so we have to prioritize. i hope you understand! almost 12 years ago

Mileszustand-trampt-200f

mileszustand m no worries. i totally get that. also you guys are doing a great job it's just that I have the feeling you guys concentrate too much on packing a lot of features instead of improving the quality. almost 12 years ago

Mileszustand-trampt-200f

mileszustand m successfull platforms like twitter, instagram and foursquare are so popular because they are simple. also i think foursquare wouldn't be that popular if the content would be a mess. As I said: No bad feelings, trampt is great! I just would love to see it mature instead of running in all directions. almost 12 years ago

Spiv-trampt-2f

blake a thanks, ultimately we appreciate the criticism because it helps us make the site better. as you can see from this convo, a lot of features are requested. ;) once we get the marketplace launched we will have more time to work on the image/library quality and refining the product. almost 12 years ago

Spiv-trampt-2f

blake a i see what you are getting at, but unfortunately building an e-commerce platform is necessarily complex. we are not building a twitter or an instagram. we are building a community, trying to foster communication and trust, so that people can sell & share art between one another. those things require a bit of work & building up feature sets. if all we were after was a glorified toy wiki, we would be done by now. :) almost 12 years ago

Spiv-trampt-2f

blake a not trying to invalidate your points, because you have good ones, but we are trying to prioritize what people are asking for -- mainly centered around buying & selling -- and we can't worry about image quality in the short term with so much else to do. we are hoping to rely in part on the community in the meantime to help us curate the library. so far, users have been generally really great about that stuff. almost 12 years ago

Spiv-trampt-2f

blake a all that said, no hard feelings in the least. we want people to be able to speak up about what they like or hate on the site. so feel free to continue to make your opinions known! thanks again. almost 12 years ago

keegan a Blake is probably going to be concern with anyone being able to affect multiple library items at once ... potentially 100+ items from an event. That doesn't mean we can't make you a moderator. :) over 11 years ago

How about enabling to copy and paste to the conversation.  Everytime i want to copy something from another website and paste it to a conversation it doesnt let me. I think that would help a lot and maybe more people would post and start more convversations.

Another suggestion:  Adding an optional event/show area to designer toys.  I say optional, meaning it's there when you enter or edit but doesn't show up in the info bar unless something is entered.  (I have no idea if that's too tricky to set up that way, but thought I'd suggest it--I could see it taking up too much space otherwise and that being the reason it was left off.)  Some things are made for conventions like SDCC and it'd be nice to be able to click on the SDCC (year) link to see those as well.  A good example is Scribe's The Resound Field Guide Spice Edition was an SDCC exclusive but it's not linked to the SDCC event with the current setup.

Easily_Amused Sounds interesting to me. But, I'm wondering why not have a national calendar for upcoming events (at least I haven't found it yet)... almost 12 years ago

i'd like to stress again that a size indicator (at least for toys) would really be helpfull! how about a colorcoded system:

yellow - 1'' to 7'' (3'' dunny, 100% be@rbrick, 7'' munny etc.)

orange - 7'' to 15'' (400% be@bricks, paw, madl etc.)

red - 15'' - 30'' (1000% be@rbrick, 20'' dunny, etc.)

violett - everything above

grey - no size information provided

maybe if you hover over an item in the library there could be another button below the + sign colored as described above and if you hover over that button you could see the exact size of the toy.

just a suggestion :D

statusquo Along with that, it would be interesting if there was a notification of blank fields that could be filled in on an item. I keep clicking through each item, then edit, then see if anyone left things out. If there was a colored flag off to the size to indicate blank fields or something??? It would make it easier to fill in the blanks. almost 12 years ago

Spiv-trampt-2f

blake a @statusquo - that is what the green bars are for under each item's thumbnail. The more the green bar is filled up, the more of the fields have been provided. You can actually sort on this too by picking "completed info" from the sort dropdown on the Library page. :) almost 12 years ago

Is there a way to rate the pieces in your collection? If people stop by and look at my junk I'd like them to know which pieces I consider the best/key.

Easily_Amused Better choice of words would be to curate your collection to convay your ideas behind its assembly, and maybe be able to show off your pics of your collection on your page (this last part just occured to me while typing and I haven't looked to see if you can do this). almost 12 years ago

Crazylikeafox11-trampt-1660f

crazylikeafox11 m Thinking about this more, I think this would helpful but probably built into the marketplace somehow. Right now, I imagine the preference would be for you to start a discussion on the toys you really love. almost 12 years ago

Easily_amused-trampt-2928f

Easily_Amused I get that, but I'm thinking more of a passive thing that isn't saying to the entire community only those who care to look. almost 12 years ago
