Gallery 1988 does a great job of combing two things I love ... 80's nostalgia and affordable prints. They've produced a variety of great shows, including the Crazy 4 Cult : 6 in New York which we actually drove down 3 hours to check out. This weekend October 26th @ 7-10pm you can check out the opening of Old School Video Game Show: Level 2. This 'Level 2' show is the second of the Old School Video Game Show and as with the first show it will feature a variety of prints and original artwork, and perhaps some custom toys. Just from the previews alone I will be pinging the @Galleries1988 twitter feed to find out when the show goes online to buy some stuff.... [ read more ]
Some amazing featured artists this week, usually guys and girls you know well but every once in a while we hope you find some new stuff by artists you don't know yet. Each week we pick some artists we like who also happen to have some stuff going on this week that we think you should know about. Whether it's a new release, upcoming show, or just some cool stuff they're recently made. Anyway, on to our featured artists... [ read more ]
We personally went to the Crazy 4 Cult : 6 show in nyc last month, and not withstanding the ridiculous lines the show was great. A variety of artists came out in person, and I believe we ended up grabbing three prints ... all still in tubes. Gallery 1988 just announced three new prints they are selling on their site coming at the closing of the show. Two screenprints by Rhys Cooper, Free Mars and Vivir Libre New York. There is also a Green Variant of the Mark Englert print You Are My Lucky Star - Green Variant, but it appears to be sold out already.... [ read more ]
Most of you know at least two of these artists, but you should know all four as they're dropping some amazing releasing in the coming weeks including a hugely successful kickstarter campaign. Each week we pick some artists we like who also happen to have some stuff going on this week that we think you should know about. Whether it's a new release, upcoming show, or just some cool stuff they're recently made. Anyway, on to our featured artists... [ read more ]
We had a busy week in Tramptland. One of the rare treats we got last week was a kid-free day trip to New York for Gallery 1988's Crazy 4 Cult NYC, and crazy is exactly what it was. Walking the city all day hitting up a variety of toy shops like Kidrobot, Myplasticheart, and Toy Tokyo we picked up some Goon Squad, Labbit - Deadly Sins, and Dunny - 2012. Then we got in the line that wrapped around the block in the Meatpacking District about 15 minutes before the show opened. Then we waited. The line was long and the crowed was excited. I heard from one of the people working the event that some people had gotten in line at 10pm the night before!... [ read more ]
We've been up a lot of late nights planning for NYCC, and after getting ready to post about this weeks 'Featured Artists' I realized that I never wrote up anything for last weeks artists. So Miri stepped up and wrote up some great stuff for last weeks artists, we'll start fresh with some new artists on Monday. For those unaware, each week we pick some artists we like who also happen to have some stuff going on this week that we think you should know about. Whether it's a new release, upcoming show, or just some cool stuff they're recently made. Anyway, on to our featured artists... [ read more ]
It's been five glorious years since the first Crazy 4 Cult show at Gallery 1988, and each year I waited impatiently at my laptop for the email that lets me know that those of us on the wrong coast can finally view the artwork online. Not this year. Crazy 4 Cult 6 is coming to town, and if you find yourself in the Northeastern US you have no excuses for missing this show. With what promises to be a great reception in the Meat Packing District in NYC the show opens this Thursday night and will remain up through September 1st. We'll be there tomorrow night, soaking up the film geekery of over 200 artists.... [ read more ]
