feauring work by Tokidoki, The Beast Brothers, Drew Millward, and Luke Chueh

It's that time again. A day later than we wanted but I think we've had a pretty good couple of news posting days. Once we have our new News backend finished we'll have multiple editors writing news instead of when I can finally find some free time. Each week we pick some artists we like who also happen to have some stuff going on this week that we think you should know about. Whether it's a new release, upcoming show, or just some cool stuff they're recently made. Anyway, on to our featured artists

Featured for Designer Toys: Tokidoki

Tokidoki and the sweet characters designed by Simone Legno, are on everything: shoes, makeup, headphones, clothes, jewelry… whatever you're in the market for, it's likely you can find a version with the iconic heart and crossbones on it. To me, however, Tokidoki is all about toys! His Barbie doll last year stirred up a mild controversy just by being too awesome, and his collaborations with Hello Kitty are a cuteness overload. His most recent collection is a blind-box series called "Royal Pride" and is dropping on September 10th. There's all kinds of cool 3" characters, along with two chase figures and 100 golden tickets that can be traded in for the super special, limited edition golden "John Bronson." Look for those to be popping up in shops everywhere in just a few days. If you're looking to buy something Tokidoki there is tons of stuff on his shop tokidoki.it or follow him on twitter at @tokidoki.

Featured for Custom Toys: The Beast Brothers

This week's featured customizers are two of the three men behind the finest piece on our toy shelf, a Warrior Skullendario Azteca, as well as my absolute favorite Kidrobot Mascot, Kidolaf. Carlos and Ernesto East, aka Beast Brothers, have been busy hanging out in Singapore for the Toy, Game and Comic convention earlier this week showing off a softubi version of their Calaverita skulls, but your next opportunity to catch them stateside will be at "Lucha Libre!" the group show they've put together at Rotofugi, coming up on October 5th. With an unbelievable lineup of artists, we'll have more on this show for you in a later post. Keep up to date by checking their site thebeastbrothers.com or following them at @BeastBrothers.

Featured for Art Prints: Drew Millward

We here at trampt are very fond of our toy collection, but we can't stress enough just how much we love art prints. At last count we had somewhere around 50 screen prints framed and hanging up, not to mention the miniature city of poster-tubes we have growing in our closet, filled with art still waiting for its turn on the walls. It's with that in mind, and with the works of some of the greatest print designers hanging all around me as I'm writing, that I want to tell you about my love for Drew Millward. For the past decade, he's been setting the bar for what a gig poster ought to look like. His background in fine arts is evident in the incredible skill with which he draws, and the life and motion in each of his prints. I've spent all last week feeling torn about Mr. Millward's latest print "Phish." On the one hand, I'm not a fan of Phish, but on the other hand, this latest print (which dropped two days ago and is now long gone) knocked my socks off. There are a few more of his prints available at Posters and Toys and on his own shop drewmillward.com. To get the latest info be sure to follow him on twitter @DrewMillward.

Featured for Original Art: Luke Chueh

If you're on this site a bunch, then it's more than likely you've heard of Luke Chueh. Maybe it's not exactly a rags to riches tale when an out-of-work graphic designer finds his calling as a world renowned painter, but that's exactly how I prefer to look at it. His Black in White is menacingly stripping on my shelf and I'm loving all the work in his latest show, I Am Your Plaything, which opened last night at Rotofugi. The only problem I have with the show is that I don't have $10k to drop on all the paintings I want. I guess I'll have to settle for the Target from Munky King which is one of the best 'Fuck You' I've seen for all of his critics. Now if I can pick up a Possessed someday for less than $300 I'll be a happy boy. Be sure to check out his site lukechueh.com and follow him on twitter for the latest news @lukechueh.
