Each week(ish) we choose four artists based on new work or shows they are releasing, or if we just really like them. This is an opportunity for you to get a glimpse at four new creative forces in the field that you may not have heard of. I'm pleased to present you with our last four featured artists of 2012. Enjoy.

Featured for Designer Toys: Sticky Monster Lab

I have a new obsession (pretty much on a weekly basis) and this week, it's Sticky Monster Lab. With their minimalist base you'd never expect the level of detail in each of these monsters, but somehow with their sweatshirts, headphones, pets, and robot legs, I find them extraordinarily relatable. Sticky Monster Lab is a Koran creative studio consisting of four members each with a unique creative background that come together to create these characters complete with background stories. With prints, toys, animations and storybooks, these monsters go far beyond 3D - and with the recently launched SML Shop, you can now see their whole wonderful collection. Of course, if you're not in Korea and are looking for these, you best hurry up because most of the shops listed on their blog as carrying them are all sold out.

Featured for Custom Toys: Roar With Lukas

There is a growing community of toy collectors and artists in Austria bringing their own unique perspective to custom toys. A great example is Roar With Lukas, who has all of my favorite qualities in an artist: His customs are great, his stuff is never repetitive, and he is super prolific. These playful characters look right out of a storybook, but their sweetness is neither cloying nor childish. He has tried his hand at so many of my favorite platforms, and they all pop with a beautiful color palette and exceptional sculpting. Check out his latest pieces in his shop and keep an eye on his doings on Facebook

Featured for Art Prints: Anthony Petrie

Early last summer I was looking forward, with great anticipation, to There's Always Money in the Banana Stand at Gallery 1988 - Melrose. I'm a huge fan of Arrested Development and the list of participating artists was impressive (to say the least). Once the show opened, however, I found myself loving and buying only one print for myself: Friend of Dorothy by Anthony Petrie. His comic book style, passion for zombies, and flare for pop culture makes him fit right into our office, and at Gallery 1988 - Melrose where he's exhibited regularly. Check out his site for his latest work.

Featured for Original Art: Dave Pressler

I spent a long evening last week entering Dave Pressler's latest Gallery 1988 - Melrose show 100 Robots into Trampt and my passion for robots is at an all-time high - and as a lifelong scifi nerd, that's saying something. This show was amazing. Each piece was clever, weird, and silly, in the best possible way. His sketches are beautiful but it should be noted that he lists his occupation as sculptor first, and there's a reason for that. Go ahead and scroll all the way down past the robots to his amazing original sculptures, and I promise you won't regret it. Sculptor, painter, illustrator, designer, and a fan of mechanical friends - it's amazing I didn't discover him sooner. Although 100 Robots is already down you can catch one of his customs at the upcoming Fonzo Loves NY show at myplasticheart opening January 11th, or keep an eye on his blog for the freshest news.
