About this Venue
Rotofugi Designer Toy Store & Gallery, established in July 2004, is located on the border of Chicago's Lincoln Park and Lakeview neighborhoods in a beautiful vintage building. Since opening, Rotofugi has grown to become one of the world's premier sellers of designer toys from artists all over the world. Rotofugi features a diverse selection of vinyl figures, capsule toys, plush and more from both eastern and western designers. The adjoining Rotofugi Gallery features monthly art exhibits by a range of both local and nationally known artists. Beginning in late 2007 Rotofugi partnered with Chicago based product development specialist Squibbles Ink to begin producing artist-designed figures by the talented designers located in their home town. Click here for more information on Squibbles Ink + Rotofugi projects. Rotofugi is owned and operated by husband and wife duo Kirby and Whitney Kerr. You can find the couple in and around the store on most days. They love to talk about toys and art. Join us the evening of Saturday, April 2nd, 2016 (7-10pm) for the grand opening of Squadt Assembly 20, a pop-up shop and exhibit by Playge in collaboration with Industry Print Shop, Threezero and Rotofugi. We worked with Playge artist Ferg in 2013 for the first Squadt Assembly, where excited fans were able to choose from a variety of 6-inch Squadt designer vinyl figure bodies and then assemble their own creation from an array of options. Now we’re doing it again, but bigger and better…Squadt Assembly 20 will feature the debut of the long-awaited 20-inch tall Squadt! Attendees of the opening reception will be able to pick either a 20-inch Squadt or a 6-inch Squadt with Gassed helmet (or one of each) and then choose from a variety of weapons, lenses, accessories and garments to complete their very own custom figure including a few extra special in-store only exclusive options! To up the ante and bring the number of custom options to an insane number, Playge has partnered with Industry Print Shop to perform live screen printing during the grand opening. Attendees will not only be able to choose from an array of garment options, but will then be able to Screen printing is a printing technique that uses a woven mesh to support an ink-blocking stencil. The attached stencil forms open areas of mesh that transfer ink or other printable materials which can be pressed through the mesh as a sharp-edged image onto a substrate. A roller or squeegee is moved across the screen stencil, forcing or pumping ink past the threads of the woven mesh in the open areas. Screen printing is also a stencil method of print making in which a design is imposed on a screen of silk or other fine mesh, with blank areas coated with an impermeable substance, and ink is forced through the mesh onto the printing surface. It is also known as silkscreen, seriography, and serigraph. Clay 'FERG' Ferguson creates his iconic works with a deep respect for the clean line.
