About this Artist

A commercial illustrator since 1996, Jason has created work for advertising, editorial, packaging and book publishing clients internationally. He is a traditional artist, painting in acrylic on watercolour paper or wood panel. His style ranges from realism to exaggeration, usually emphasizing the figure, and a certain degree of humour or caricature. Jason is often asked to emulate a specific genre of illustration, such as movie posters, pulp covers or retro style advertising. His fondness for pop culture, especially movies and toys often creep into his work. Giclée (pronounced "zhee-clay") is a neologism for the process of making fine art prints from a digital source using ink-jet printing. The word "giclée" is derived from the French language word "le gicleur" meaning "nozzle", or more specifically "gicler" meaning "to squirt, spurt, or spray". It was coined in 1991 by Jack Duganne, a printmaker working in the field, to represent any inkjet-based digital print used as fine art. The intent of that name was to distinguish commonly known industrial "Iris proofs" from the type of fine art prints artists were producing on those same types of printers. The name was originally applied to fine art prints created on Iris printers in a process invented in the early 1990s but has since come to mean any high quality ink-jet print and is often used in galleries and print shops to denote such prints. Born in New Orleans and raised in the San Francisco bay area, Dave Correia has been drawing his entire life. At an early age, he was administered a steady dosage of comic books, horror films and video games; all of which have had strong influences on his artistic style today. His drawings are often tedious with detail and washed with de-saturated yet subtle color. He has described his work as therapeutic and frustrating all at once. Dave's illustrations were widely seen in the successful Scion XD Little Deviant advertising campaign. His illustrations were used in numerous commercials, print ads, billboards, websites, posters, vehicle wraps and various guerilla marketing strategies. Aside from his freelance artwork, Dave also self-publishes and exhibits his personal work at various comic shows and art galleries across the country. Founded in 2001 as a magazine devoted to the obsessive-compulsive world of Japanese toy collecting, Super7 embarked on a mission to become the premiere outlet for information and reference for the obscure oddities of the toy universe. The success of the magazine immediately led to Super7 collaborating with Japanese toy manufacturers to create exclusive toys and various special editions, evolving over time to Super7 designing and manufacturing its own collectible toys. Super7’s philosophy is to make products— toys, books, magazines, t-shirts, and even their own retail store in San Francisco— that its collector founders would want, resulting in Super7’s products being recognized by fans as original, unique, and most of all, genuine.
