Mixed media tends to refer to a work of visual art that combines various traditionally distinct visual art media. For example, a work on canvas that combines paint, ink, and collage could properly be called a "mixed media" work. When creating a painted or photographed work using mixed media it is important to choose the layers carefully and allow enough drying time between the layers to ensure the final work will have integrity. If many different media are used it is equally important to choose a sturdy foundation upon which the different layers are imposed. Many interesting effects can be achieved by using mixed media. Often, found objects are used in conjunction with traditional artist media, such as paints and graphite, to express a meaning in the everyday life. In this manner, many different elements of art become more flexible than with traditional artist media. Ever since he held his first crayon, Scott Kinnebrew has attempted to manifest the things only seen in his mind. After spending years working strictly in the digital medium on projects ranging from movie and music posters, album covers, and digital video content, the need to create physical works resurfaced. After a 10 year break, Kinnebrew now finds himself working with acrylics, brushes, markers and spray paint on surfaces like canvas, plastic,wood, shoes and vinyl toys. Bright colors, bold lines and the motivation from the things around him make up the majority of his works, those of which were most recently displayed at the Sweden Meets Austin : Music Meets Art show at SXSW 2011. "If it can be used to create Ill give it a try, and thats what attracted me to not only canvas but urban vinyl as well." says Kinnebrew,"I create for me, so my main focus is fun. If Im not having fun creating, Im not doing it right." An avid toy collector, and fan of franchises like Star Wars, Flash Gordon, Spawn, The Maxx, Akira, the inspiration has always close at hand. "I wouldn't say I have a style per say, but more of Come one, come all to Flower Pepper Gallery on Saturday, November 8th, for the opening of our new group exhibition, For the Love of Music, curated by Urban Vinyl Daily! For The Love of Music is a collection of works dedicated to the soundtracks of our lives, featuring 12" x 12" pieces inspired by classic album covers. Each piece is sized to represent the quintessential 12" album jacket, portraying precisely how each of these artistic interpretations would appear in production as album art. Music has inspired all of us in some form or another whether it be via a favorite musician, song, or album, there is something beautiful that happens that surpasses all and stimulates creativity. Through history music has greatly inspired and informed artists and we hope that this nice juxtaposition of art and music inspires you!
