Devil Skull dunny

Item Details

About this Platform

The toy is based on a rabbit figure with distinctive tubular ears. The origin of the name Dunny came from a combination of street slang and one of the early "Devil Bunny" prototypes. The Dunny is sold in four sizes - 3", 5", 8" and 20". The toy has three points of articulation; a 360 degree rotational head and two arms. An artist card or sticker is also included with the 3" Dunny from a series. Most 3" Dunnys and some 8" Dunnys are normally sold as "blind assortment"; the figure is packaged inside a sealed foil wrapper, such that the buyer is not able to see which figure and accessories they are buying. Sealing the figure prevents people from opening and peeking in the boxes and buying only the figures they want. Most Dunnys are packaged inside a clear plastic bag in addition to the foil wrapper. In the second-hand market, this assures the buyer that the article was never on display and is in a "new" condition. With the success of vinyl toys as a medium for expression, many fans and artists have put their own design onto blank Dunnys. Devin Somerville was born in Green Bay, Wisconsin in February of 1976. He moved to Milwaukee in 1994 and attended UWM to study art and architecture. After discovering the specialized process of borosilicate lampworking, he moved to Oregon in 1998 to concentrate on this art form. In January of 2001 he started a shop in Northern California. A year later he decided to bring his unique talent home to create fine hand blown glass for the people of Milwaukee. As co-owner of Ring of Fire Glassworks, Devin established a business which included a studio and retail gallery with Paul Stephan in January of 2002. In May of 2003, Ring of Fire moved to Walker's Point, just south of downtown Milwaukee. This expanded workspace included a cold work room, 8 lampworking stations, and a gallery. Ring of Fire closed its doors in December of 2005 and both artists reverted to small home studios. Now in a more private and serene atmosphere, Devin is pursuing lampworking with full force in his many forms of functional and decorative creations. Devin is currently showing fine glassware in galleries throughout the world, web galleries, and auctions.
