A plush art toy is a collectible, artist-designed soft sculpture that blends elements of fine art, character design, and traditional plush toy craftsmanship. Unlike mass-produced plush toys, these are often handmade or produced in limited editions, featuring unique designs, high-quality materials, and intricate detailing. Artists and independent designers create plush art toys to express their distinct styles, often incorporating surreal, cute, creepy, or abstract aesthetics. They can be purely decorative or interactive, with elements like movable limbs, embroidered details, or mixed-media embellishments. Many plush art toys are sold through galleries, designer toy conventions, or directly by artists, making them sought-after collectibles in the designer toy community. Andrew was born in England in 1978. His family moved several times until settling into the eastern US in the mid 1980's. He has lived and worked in New York since 1996. Andrew's work spans a wide spectrum of mediums from illustrations and paintings to toys and sculptures. Much of his work is brought together by a sense of humor that often belies a more serious and sombre message. His work has been featured in solo and group gallery shows from LA to Paris and has been covered by publications such as The New York Times and Wired. Chief Squishers Zoe and Aaron started Squishable in 2007 after deciding that plush was much more interesting than working in tech. The products were much cuter, the people were nicer, and folks didn't mind as much when you broke into uncontrollable giggles (something that's not acceptable, say, when analyzing someone's server security).
