Gouache is an opaque, water-based paint that combines the fluidity of watercolor with the boldness of acrylic or oil paint. It consists of pigment, water, and a binding agent (usually gum arabic), with added chalk or white pigment to enhance its opacity. Gouache is popular among illustrators, designers, and fine artists for its rich color payoff, ease of use, and adaptability across different styles and techniques. This collection serves as a testament to the gallery’s deep-rooted connection to the designer toy movement and its commitment to preserving and celebrating this unique art form. Lianne STEFFI Lim aka "STEFFI ü" from the Philippines worked for 12 years as a professional interior designer before turning to a full-time artist. She graduated from UST as Magna Cum Laude and landed 6th on the 2010 board exams. She's highly obsessed with watching history documentaries and studying about society and culture. Strongly advocating for mental health awareness, being diagnosed as neurodiverse herself, her art therapy sessions ignited her love of making one-off pieces that serves as an alternate diary for her thoughts and feelings. She is currently focused on making her own line of art toys and painting but still camouflages herself as an ordinary highly-caffeinated, One-Piece-loving hunter of cute and nostalgic objects or a collector of toys and vinyl records. Acrylic paint is fast drying paint containing pigment suspension in acrylic polymer emulsion. Acrylic paints can be diluted with water, but become water-resistant when dry. Depending on how much the paint is diluted (with water) or modified with acrylic gels, media, or pastes, the finished acrylic painting can resemble a watercolor or an oil painting, or have its own unique characteristics not attainable with other media.
