About this Artist
Porreca is a modern contemporary artist working out of studio space in San Francisco and occasionally London. Claiming marked influences from the repetitive religious and popular iconography of her childhood, European silhouette and folklore artists, literature, Street Art, with whimsical & macabre films she paints a delicate world of intricately layered folklore. She was born to two artists in a small village outside of London, England. She spent her childhood living in the Middle East and found herself in San Francisco with nothing but sheer fodder to create. Much like a creative alchemist, Porreca at times spends days in her studio immersed in literary and visual research, perfecting this unique method by which she produces her artworks. Her paintings are on wood panel and loaded with the texture of centuries ago, but with futuristic elements, leaving the viewer unsure and unsteady in the face of a new and very modern work of art. Porreca's artworks have gained more recent exposure thanks to publications and online forums like Live Fast Magazine, Argot and Ochre, & Lost at E Minor. In the past she has been featured multiple times in Juxtapoz Magazine, Kotori Magazine, The Philippine Star, Manila, and Spoke Art is San Francisco’s newest art gallery and publishing house. Following a year of pop up exhibits in New York City, San Francisco and Oakland, we have finally settled down into our new permanent space on Sutter Street in San Francisco’s dynamic Lower Nob Hill neighborhood. We specialize in emerging new contemporary artists with a firm emphasis on figurative and illustrative works. Our regular exhibits open the first Thursday of every month, and we specialize in connecting collectors with secondary market works namely in the fields of pop surrealism, low brow and street art. SAMETAN: DON'T TREAD ON ME PangeaSeed in collaboration with Tokyo-based vinyl toy designer Cometdebris (Koji Harmon), are pleased to announce our latest shark-saving effort: Sametan – Don’t Tread on Me For one weekend only, March 29-30, 2013, at the Spoke Art Gallery in San Francisco, we will host a one of a kind art exhibition featuring 30 custom Sametan vinyl figures designed by 30 global artists including Frank Kozik, Buff Monster, Jenn Porreca and many more. Through this unique event we aim to generate greater awareness for the global plight of sharks and the importance of our oceans via creative and entertaining avenues in order to raise critical funding to support PangeaSeed’s ongoing efforts and groundbreaking projects. Proceeds raised through the sales of the vinyl figures will help fund PangeaSeed’s 2014 “Year of Living Dangerously” art tour of Asia. Because Asia is ground zero for the trade and consumption of many endangered species, the 2014 Asian event will reach six major Asian cities extending our core message to critical audiences.
