Le Merde is Seattle based artist Mike Kelly. His work ranges from illustrations, toys, sculpture to hand cast resin figures. He draws inspiration from horror movies on VHS tapes to 70′s rock and boogie. He believes in the notion that YOU MUST CREATE. Kelly is really inspired by Hideshi Hino the Japanese horror manga artist and finds the way he draws his demons, ghouls are beyond amazing. In the future, he would love to have a larger production done of his figures because although he loves hand casting and will always do (D.I.Y!), it is really time consuming. Kelly thinks the perfect balance will be to have smaller editions of the hand cast figures (more like art sculptures) and then have some larger produced editions more like toys. Gargamel is a prominent Japanese toy producer and designer, known for its vinyl figures that often draw heavily from kaiju (giant monster) culture, retro Japanese toy aesthetics, and punk influences. Founded by Hiroshi Nakanishi, Gargamel has made a significant impact on the designer toy world, especially within the kaiju and underground toy communities. Founded in 2001 as a magazine devoted to the obsessive-compulsive world of Japanese toy collecting, Super7 embarked on a mission to become the premiere outlet for information and reference for the obscure oddities of the toy universe. The success of the magazine immediately led to Super7 collaborating with Japanese toy manufacturers to create exclusive toys and various special editions, evolving over time to Super7 designing and manufacturing its own collectible toys. Super7’s philosophy is to make products— toys, books, magazines, t-shirts, and even their own retail store in San Francisco— that its collector founders would want, resulting in Super7’s products being recognized by fans as original, unique, and most of all, genuine.
