As a graduate with a BFA from Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California, Miso’s work is presented through a variety of mediums including paintings, sculptures, drawings, and etchings. Her art is often stimulated by her interpretation of the known and her experimentation with the unknown. Fascinated with ecocatastrophe, biology and the science of evolution, Miso has sought to fabricate a world in which strange creatures, born of her making, exist and thrive among us. These homunculi are organic representations of the term that provides her name. “The Cold Returns” was a winter show. The sheepies and misos that populate this exhibition have weathered the tundra and fjords of their individual phantasmagoria to open a new season, with the promise of a magical experience. Miso currently works and resides in Los Angeles, California, and creates fine art photography under her given name, Karen Hsiao. Wood is a versatile and timeless art medium used in various forms of artistic expression, from sculpture and carving to painting and mixed media. Artists appreciate wood for its natural grain, warmth, and durability, which add depth and character to their work. THE LEGEND Trickster...Warrior...Revolutionary. Sick of living under the yoke of the Jade Emperor, The Monkey King staged a coup against the Kingdom of Heaven using his wits, his cunning and a very big stick. Individuality in the face of conformity is his legacy. THE TOYS In his honor we built this temple, filling it with toys that embody his rebellious and creative spirit. Cast from the hearts and minds of independent artists from around the world, these "Designer Toys" or "Art Toys" are part of an ever-growing international phenomenon. In an age where mega-conglomerates churn out mass-produced hunks of cheap plastic, these limited production-run collectibles are revolutionizing the way people think about art and toys.
