A Munny is a figure created by Kidrobot and made out of vinyl with movable joints. The initial idea was undertaken by taggers/ street artists/ street art designs and toys from (illegal artists) who have come to bring back their work legally to the public to display their works. The figures are blank and the owner can decorate them using pens, pencils, markers, paint, and other supplies. Alternatively, some people commission artists to design Munnys for them, or artists design them to sell. In MUNNYWORLD, you can do anything you want! MUNNY, BUB, TRIKKY, RAFFY, and ROOZ are the soft, super smooth vinyl figures that make up MUNNYWORLD. Each one is a blank canvas, and all ready for scribbling, piercing, painting, posing, piling, dressing up, and sculpting into forms straight from your imagination or you can keep them just as they are. And, most importantly, have fun with MUNNYWORLD Kalin grew up drawing and painting in the small town of Lubec, Maine, in the States (middle of nowheresville county and proud of it). After a classic New England childhood Kalin moved out west to live and study in Vancouver. About the fourth year of drawing his way through a linguistics degree he had a change of heart and began painting. Without any formal guidance or training, hints of style began to bud through his work and blossom into a mischievous demon crossbreed between classic techniques and contemporary illustrative lining. But the real gems of Kalin’s pieces are more to be found in work ethic. From 50 to 500 hours, his paintings express an attention and care that is often lacking in today’s contemporary art. His work thrives on the almost microscopic details and a painting that looks like it must be huge may in fact be of a more conservative size. Using tiny brushes (no pens), sanded wood and the lost art of “the seven point hand stabilization technique” (not a real technique…) he is able to achieve the desired effect and bring to you an art like you’ve never seen before.
