myplasticheart presents When Hell Freezes Over 2 a group exhibition featuring custom one-of-a-kind pieces based on Lou Pimentel’s original character – Junior. A sequel to 2010’s first showing of Junior’s predecessor, Cranston Fellows Jr., this time around the baby incarnation takes the spotlight as he is transformed and re-imagined by a tremendous lineup of artists, the who’s who of today’s art toy scene. With over 30 artists on board this show will be a sight to see. Raised in Dronfield in the United Kingdom, Squink! grew up on a diet of popcorn, candy, and Jayce and the wheeled warriors. Qualified as a graphic designer but also a keen painter from a very early age, he became a toy collector with the launch Of the Toy2R Qee, which eventually lead to customising everything he could get his hands on! A head filled with characters in need of being set free finally had an outlet. Heavily influenced by japanese culture and 80’s cartoons, he claims to put a little bit of his soul into each character he creates, giving them all a unique personality, fueled by coffee, good smelly cheese and shoegaze. Gathering inspiration from the toys and natural forms he surrounds himself with. Squink! has more recently branched out into canvas paintings, and also limited edition screen printed t-shirts. Established in 2004, myplasticheart is a toy store and gallery dedicated to bringing the best in both the designer toy and contemporary art world together in one place. Located in the Lower East Side in New York City myplasticheart provides one of the largest selections of designer art toys anywhere. From mini figures to plush to art books and prints you will find a wide range of unique art and design products related to the designer toy culture.
