About this Venue
Rotofugi Designer Toy Store & Gallery, established in July 2004, is located on the border of Chicago's Lincoln Park and Lakeview neighborhoods in a beautiful vintage building. Since opening, Rotofugi has grown to become one of the world's premier sellers of designer toys from artists all over the world. Rotofugi features a diverse selection of vinyl figures, capsule toys, plush and more from both eastern and western designers. The adjoining Rotofugi Gallery features monthly art exhibits by a range of both local and nationally known artists. Beginning in late 2007 Rotofugi partnered with Chicago based product development specialist Squibbles Ink to begin producing artist-designed figures by the talented designers located in their home town. Click here for more information on Squibbles Ink + Rotofugi projects. Rotofugi is owned and operated by husband and wife duo Kirby and Whitney Kerr. You can find the couple in and around the store on most days. They love to talk about toys and art. Hi, my name is Bwana Spoons. I am a painter, and half jack of many other trades. I heart trees, moss, and monsters. I make toys, and design shoes, bust the occasional illustration, or work on an installation. I make art. T9G (pronounced “Takug”) is a Japanese artist and toy designer known for his distinctive, surreal character designs and high-quality sofubi (soft vinyl) figures. With a background in sculpting and an eye for expressive, exaggerated features, T9G’s work often blends elements of horror, fantasy, and cuteness, creating creatures that are both unsettling and endearing. His signature characters, such as Rangeas and Byron, feature intricate textures, dynamic poses, and unique paint applications. T9G is also known for his collaborations with other artists and brands in the designer toy world, pushing the boundaries of sofubi production with innovative sculpting techniques and hand-painted details. His work is widely respected in the Japanese and global art toy scene, making him a sought-after figure for collectors and enthusiasts who appreciate the fusion of traditional craftsmanship with contemporary design.
