About this Medium

Giclée (pronounced "zhee-clay") is a neologism for the process of making fine art prints from a digital source using ink-jet printing. The word "giclée" is derived from the French language word "le gicleur" meaning "nozzle", or more specifically "gicler" meaning "to squirt, spurt, or spray". It was coined in 1991 by Jack Duganne, a printmaker working in the field, to represent any inkjet-based digital print used as fine art. In 2004 I went to Australia and I picked up a book called 'Stencil Graffiti Capital Melbourne' and without sounding too cliche, it changed everything for me. The energy the scene had at that time was insane, people were out all night painting everywhere they could. I knew I had to get in on it. I'd done stencils before so I knew the basics but the level
