About this Platform
Marshall burst onto the scene in January 2008 when a relatively unknown design team from a small town in Michigan released a letter-pressed print of their new character, an infectiously happy little marshmallow boy who just happened to enjoy roasting marshmallows himself. The Marshall shown on the print was equal parts cute and sadistic, one of our favorite combinations. From the first time we saw Marshall we knew that 64 Colors’ partners, Laura and Eric, had hit on something fantastic. Luckily for us it turns out that Laura and Eric were not only great designers, but also fans of designer toys…and as it turns out, fans of Rotofugi. So when they approached us about the idea of making Marshall toys, we jumped at the opportunity and suggested a blind box series. Vinyl Destination and Exposure Gallery presents, "Dreams In Focus". South Africa's first custom toy show featuring an exciting roster of local AND international artists. Each artist will be showcasing an amazing custom set of both a vinyl designer toy, as well as a Lomography camera, which then be sold via online auction. All sale proceeds will benefit the Red Cross Children's Hospital Trust in the Western Cape. Be sure to join us on the evening of 19 July at the Old Biscuit Mill, in Woodstock, Cape Town, and join the fun in this exciting event which celebrates art and photography, and all while supporting a good cause! Exposure Gallery is a photographic concept store that prides itself in being a platform for photographic inspirational products, cutting edge photographic artists, and avant-garde photographic concepts. Retail items available at Exposure Gallery include inspirational photographic books, original photographic art, Lomography cameras and Lensbaby lenses. We do custom printing of photographs onto paper, canvas, wallpaper and lampshades. Exposure hosts regular photographic exhibitions promoting established South African photographers, but also provides new photographers with an opportunity to expose their art to the buying public. Lomography cameras are now at the forefront of the photographic film revolution. Lomographers are inspired by the opportunities for spontaneous creativity offered by these cameras in the midst of the digital age. Exposure operates a retail agency for Lomography cameras and accessories and together with JHB Lomography Embassy Store acts as the face of South African Lomography. 64 Colors is an artist duo made up of Laura and Eric, known for their whimsical, colorful, and highly detailed designer toys, illustrations, and character designs. Their work blends elements of Japanese pop culture, vintage Americana, and street art, creating a signature aesthetic that is both nostalgic and modern. Their most iconic creation is Marshall, a cute marshmallow-like character with a mischievous yet lovable personality and it work often features soft, rounded shapes, intricate patterns, and dreamlike color palettes, evoking a sense of nostalgia and wonder. In addition to toys, 64 Colors has worked on illustrations, prints, apparel, and branding projects, bringing their signature art style to various mediums. Their work has gained a strong following in the designer toy and pop art communities, appealing to collectors who love quirky, nostalgic, and highly stylized characters
