About this Artist
Scott Wilkowski is a Milwaukee-based artist renowned for his innovative contributions to the designer toy scene. With over two decades of experience as a commercial sculptor, Wilkowski has gained recognition for his unique approach to customizing and creating art toys. Wilkowski is best known for his “Infected” series, where he meticulously embeds detailed skeletal structures within popular designer toys, offering a captivating glimpse beneath the surface. This process involves creating translucent resin casts that reveal intricate internal designs, blending elements of anatomy with pop culture Self-produced art toys are designer collectibles created and manufactured independently by the artist or small teams without the backing of a large toy company or mass-market brand. These toys are often highly personal, artistic expressions and are usually made in limited runs. Key Characteristics include independent creation where the artist is in control of the entire process from concept, sculpting, and painting to production and packaging. These are usually made in small batches, often 10–100 pieces, which adds to their rarity, made using materials like resin, sofubi (Japanese soft vinyl), or 3D-printed components. "Designer / Toy Manufacturer Monster Worship Based in Pittsburgh, Chad Rugola founded Monster Worship in 2008 to collaborate with other artists who share his “religious” interest in kaiju, cryptids, and Japanese toys. Chad previously published hardcore music fanzines and operated an indie record label which instilled a DIY ethos long before the internet age. So with the DIY ambitions and inspired by small toy companies like Secret Base, Super7, and Gargamel, he decided to begin making vinyl toys, t-shirts, and other art. So far, Monster Worship’s toy offerings include beaK’s Kusogon, Jeff Lamm’s Greasebat, Johnny Ryan’s Cannibal Fuckface from Prison Pit and Chad’s own Altar Beast. Martin Ontiveros, MCA, Galaxy People, Velocitron, and the talented sculptors Chauskoskis and Monster 5 are also among the artists who have worked with Monster Worship. In addition to appearing at SDCC, NYCC, Superfestival, and gallery shows at FOE, Rotofugi, and elsewhere, Monster Worship has also been a regular presence at the annual Mothman Festival in nearby West Virginia." http://www.designertoyawards.com/board/chad-rugola
