About this Event
Through The Lines is the first exhibition to chronicle Arkiv’s Vilmansa’s career during the past several years of artistic growth and budding success. As the title suggests, the exhibition is centralized on the theme of overcoming adversity or “rolling with the punches.” Many of Vilmansa’s characters are seen embroiled in conflict, be it through physical restraint or combat. True to his technique, Vilmansa’s deep and curvaceous lines slice across each canvas, while radiant, harlequin waves sweep your eyes up and around the bodies of unusual, yet beautiful creatures. As a result, Vilmansa has developed his portrayal of colorful fluidity and struggle and opposition. Through the lines marks a pivotal turning point in Vilmansa’s career, where past challenges are overcome and the process of moving forward begins. Arkiv Vilmansa is based in Bandung, Indonesia, where he received formal training as an architect and graphic designer. Initially gaining international recognition with his vinyl toys, Vilmansa then began painting with acrylic on canvas that have now become his main media. Since 2008, Vilmansa has consistently exhibited his works in group and solo shows, receiving critical acclaim from the global art world. Vincent Michael Gallery is a multifaceted space that exhibits diverse forms of art from both emerging and established artists. By incorporating the use of progressive technology, we strive to challenge contemporary art as well as our artists, and seek to create an open forum for on-going dialogue and community engagement. Use of liquid ink as a material to create art, typically by applying it to a surface like paper with a pen or brush, allowing artists to produce drawings, paintings, or calligraphy by utilizing its fluidity and color properties to form images or text; essentially, it's a versatile tool for creating artwork through the application of colored liquid
