About this Medium
Mixed media tends to refer to a work of visual art that combines various traditionally distinct visual art media. For example, a work on canvas that combines paint, ink, and collage could properly be called a "mixed media" work. When creating a painted or photographed work using mixed media it is important to choose the layers carefully and allow enough drying time between the layers to ensure the final work will have integrity. If many different media are used it is equally important to choose a sturdy foundation upon which the different layers are imposed. Many interesting effects can be achieved by using mixed media. Often, found objects are used in conjunction with traditional artist media, such as paints and graphite, to express a meaning in the everyday life. In this manner, many different elements of art become more flexible than with traditional artist media. Several sponsors jumped on board as well. The obvious connection with Dallas KidRobot affiliate ATAMA made them a perfect fit and they had a pop-up shop at the show. San Antonio based family business Bean Pot Toiz supplied artists with blanks at cost to give them a large selection of toys to customize as well as manned the ultra cool toy lounge pop-up shop at the show. Local favorite comic book store Lone Star Comics Plano sent along a gift basket to raffle. Austin distillery Deep Eddy Sweet Tea Vodka provided adult beverages. Additional beverages were provided by vitaminwater and Red Bull. Location-based review giant Yelp promoted the show to their subscribers. Finally, Aaron Brothers Art and Framing contributed supplies to all of the artists. The sponsorships with vitaminwater and Yelp were unique. Both of those companies had their own customs at the show. Yelp gave away their custom by artist Motorbot to one of their subscribers. Two customs were created for vitaminwater: one each from Cody Phillips (MacIX) and Dylan Bradway. One to give away at the show and one that the company kept. DJ Fishr Pryce, winner of the recent Dallas Red Bull Thre3style competition was spinning tunes throughout the Raised in the great white north of Canada, on sugar-infested cereal, 80’s music, Peanuts comics, and classic Nintendo games Cameron Tiede has always stayed a kid. In the 90’s, he ventured down to Southern California to thaw out and attend Art Center College of Design where he studied illustration. Cameron’s signature style is infused with raw energetic characters and stimulating colour. Described as “illuminated innocence,” his work is as playful as it is honest. Currently he draws, paints and designs for himself and others. He is working on a number of limited edition art toys which are due out this year. Some of his clients have included Disney, Mattel, Nickelodeon, and Warner Brothers. His work is both exhibited and collected around the world.
