About this Medium
Giclée (pronounced "zhee-clay") is a neologism for the process of making fine art prints from a digital source using ink-jet printing. The word "giclée" is derived from the French language word "le gicleur" meaning "nozzle", or more specifically "gicler" meaning "to squirt, spurt, or spray". It was coined in 1991 by Jack Duganne, a printmaker working in the field, to represent any inkjet-based digital print used as fine art. The intent of that name was to distinguish commonly known industrial "Iris proofs" from the type of fine art prints artists were producing on those same types of printers. The name was originally applied to fine art prints created on Iris printers in a process invented in the early 1990s but has since come to mean any high quality ink-jet print and is often used in galleries and print shops to denote such prints. myplasticheart presents the 3rd annual New Moon: Interpretations of the Chinese Zodiac group exhibit. Over the next 7 years I honed my skills as a character animator working on spots for Target, Pepsi, M&M’s, Mott’s, and Braun, as well as the feature films Joe’s Apartment, Alien Resurrection, and Ice Age. One of the true highlights during my tenure was animating on the 1998 Academy Award Winner for Best Animated Short Film, Bunny. In 2002, I was asked to join Hornet Inc. as their Animation Director. For the next 2 years, the launch of my role as director found me working on ground-breaking character spots for BMW (“Angels” Ad Critic’s ‘Spot of the Day’ November 2003), Quaker Oats ("The Three Bears", 2004 Annie Award Nominee for Best Animated Commercial and "Red Riding Hood") and Reese’s. Following a short stint at freelancing during the beginning of 2005 at local shops which included Charlex, Psyop, Framestore NY and Nickelodeon, I was then approached to head up the newly formed 3d department at Guava, where I served as their Director of Animation for three years.
