KAWS DILEMA!

I have a choice of buying 1 of 2 Kaws pieces and I cant decide...

Either the Astro Boy or Resting Companion? Which do you think is a better buy?

Im kinda torn between the two and looking for some good selling points since neither are cheap peices.

I have the Resting Companion and it's a solid piece. I didn't bother with the Astro Boy because I was never a fan of the show. If you have some memories of Astro Boy than maybe that.

ELJEFE313 No....just that brand may be being discontinued but im sure he will still sell toys through his site and medicom over 11 years ago

I'd go with the resting companion because it is an original design versus a liscenced product.

Easily_Amused You might also want to read this article before you buy Kaws: http://www.jeremyriad.com/blog/editorials/remember-those-kaws-6-foot-under-companions/ over 11 years ago

Eljefe313-trampt-1270f

ELJEFE313 Not sure what that has to do with me....but I read it and I agree that he is quite ego driven and his "street art" altered others work. But I would love to tell the gallery that they were pussies for not standing their ground as the exhibit was a persons collection and not a KAWS show. over 11 years ago

Eljefe313-trampt-1270f

ELJEFE313 I would have told KAWS to kick rocks.....and on a side note, if they did that...that would have heightened the popularity and rep of the gallery. Im thinking we should go into business making display coffins for all KAWS pieces that come out....LOL over 11 years ago

Easily_amused-trampt-2928f

Easily_Amused LOL! That would be funny. I don't like to support jerks, and that would make me think twice about buying a piece from him. over 11 years ago

Eljefe313-trampt-1270f

ELJEFE313 The only deal breaker for me would be if I met him in person and he was a complete asshole. I cant judge him by this article cuz for all I know he was having a shitty day....may have gotten some bad caviar, shoe was untied, high on cocain or got ripped off by a hooker.....who knows....my point is I dig his work and unless he disses me directly then I dont care what he does on his own time...LOL over 11 years ago

Eljefe313-trampt-1270f

ELJEFE313 ....Im also a big fan of Pollock....lol over 11 years ago

Easily_amused-trampt-2928f

Easily_Amused LOL! You do make great points. I'm just tired of artists rights beyond the point of original sale (unless it is included in the terms of the original sale). There is a case being reviewed at the SCOTUS that will decide whether you have the right to resale art (not to mention everything else) manufactured or copyrighted outside of the US. over 11 years ago

Eljefe313-trampt-1270f

ELJEFE313 Well that's stupid... over 11 years ago

Easily_amused-trampt-2928f

Easily_Amused Yeah, you will have to get permission from the artist (company) that made it to resale and what terms you can resale at. While they will be able to demand part of the take for the second sale. Real pisser. I hope SCOTUS overturns it. But I have no faith they will. over 11 years ago

Eljefe313-trampt-1270f

ELJEFE313 Yeah....its not as cut and dry as you think. First off, its not just about art it all started with that dude from cornell who was selling text books on ebay and is now caught up in a copyright case. It is also pertaining to goods made overseas as well. As far as art goes im sure there will be loopholes where we can still sit here on this site and sell what we as individuals own. over 11 years ago

Eljefe313-trampt-1270f

ELJEFE313 I dont see that going away anytime soon due to the fact the artists would be most effected by that because the secondary market kinda determines their worth. Just from what I have read, this only pertains to libraries and museums and their ownership of foreign acquired works. over 11 years ago

Easily_amused-trampt-2928f

Easily_Amused No, I followed the whole case, I was just trying to speak specifically to art. The problem is there is no limiting factor on who is affected.. It extends from your electronics made with foriegn parts in them, to your car, to everything. There is no individual loop hole, otherwise their wouldn't even be a case. Ebay, craigslist, Amazon, and any other second hand seller will be extremely affected too. over 11 years ago

Easily_amused-trampt-2928f

Easily_Amused It also might encourage any manufacturers left in America to move overseas to have more control of their product. The only loop hole I can see is if the producer issues a waiver with the product, and maybe a grandfather clause for items manufactured before x date. Who knows. over 11 years ago

Eljefe313-trampt-1270f

ELJEFE313 Like I said, I dont see that happening but I guess a point that I was trying to make is like this....If I buy this KAWS Companion then nobody is going to know if I sell it to my neighbor for a different price....see where im going with that.. over 11 years ago

Easily_amused-trampt-2928f

Easily_Amused LOL! Yes I do. I also agree with it. But, I still see this huge cumbersome monster being created and wonder what twilight zone episode ala CCCP we will have to go through if it is upheld. over 11 years ago
