Curious to see how people feel about "bootlegs"

I am split on this type of toy. On one hand I think bootlegs are un original, On the other hand, I come accross an artist mashup and I think it's pure brilliance. I'm so conflicted. Am I the onlyone who feels this way?

It depends on a lot of things for me. I agree with Izzy, if they are trying to trick you into buying something you think is legitimate than they suck and are assholes. I had bought a Blue HMNI on eBay years ago for it to arrive at my door and it was clearly a fake, opened a dispute and got my money back. Then there is/was a guy on eBay a while ago, not sure if he's around but would literally paint the same design on top of a dunny with different colors and then post that is was a rare chase.

What you're talking about seems like a custom fusing two artist styles together which seems interesting. I always say buy what you like, just don't try and trick people if you ever end up sellling it then it's all good. :)

if they aren't meant to trick people into believing they are the "real deal", then all good.

I actually have a KAWS companion bootleg that *is* trying to be the real deal, but I'm indifferent about KAWS bootlegs, mostly because I know I wouldn't ever shell out the money for some of the oldies.

Easily_Amused Because he takes pieces of existing toys and mixes them together to create new and unique toys. Which he then uses to make molds and cast them. over 11 years ago

Easily_Amused For the record, I agree with ELJEFE313. However, I've come to call the style to myself atleast Original Bootlegs, to reference the roots that this subgenre of the art toy has emerged from. over 11 years ago

Easily_Amused I think it will focus on people who use Masters of the Universe (He Man) Figure parts to create there works. over 11 years ago

Guess it depends on how you use the term "bootleg" I mean if you are talking about things like SUCKLORD then those are pretty dope. But people actually making fake bootlegs of existing toys then that is some crap. That just hurts the market in many ways and now people have to worry about wether the stuff they buy is real. Just because I cant afford a Warhol right now does not mean im going to buy one painted by the guy across the street and and act as though that fills that void....

ELJEFE313 lol....thank you! over 11 years ago

Well, it depends which definition of Bootleg you are using...

As everyone has pointed out, bootlegs made to fake out the buyer into believing they are getting an original are uncool.

However, Artist Bootlegs (such as Killer Bootlegs) are freaking awesome! You just need to find what you like.
