There has been a bit of a drop-off in the Newswire as of late. We suffered the loss of Trustpigs pumping out daily posts, combined with Blake and I trying to get conversations off the ground. Thankfully my wife and I will be stepping up to cover that gap. Our new release format for our featured artists will be every monday morning, which we're calling #mkm (must know mondays). These artists were picked a couple weeks back when they had some shows & new releases, so I apologize to them for this not being as timely as it could have been. Anyway, on to our featured artists:
I've started to friend more artists on Facebook because they tend to share more WIP info than on twitter, and I've been seeing a ton of Gread's with a new 'slime' treatment popup over and over. While I like Brian's work, these guys in particular have really caught my eye over his original Gread editions ... somehow they feel more complete to me. The bigger news for this realease, is you were able to order your own color combinations and were made to order. I ended up picking up the black & yellow version already on the site. You can check out more of Brian's work at deadhandtoys.com and follow him on twitter @LYS0L.
I remember seeing a few of Fakir's pieces on a variety of toy blogs, but the customs for his show Expo Fakir at Artoyz Gallery included some amazing pieces. Not only does he have a very bold style and strong characters, but the precision of his craft makes his pieces look production. When photos of Fakir's work popup it always makes me wonder for a second if Kidrobot started making production Munnys ... nope, he's just that bad-ass. You can check out more of Fakir's work at fakirdesign.com and follow him on twitter @fakirdesign.
I personally hadn't stumbled upon Strawberryluna's work until I saw her test print show, Elephants in the Trees at Rotofugi, online a few weeks back. That show made me go check out her site and I was even more impressed with her body of work. Once I have a spare moment I'll have to drop in more of her work. You can check out more of Strawberryluna's work at strawberryluna.com and follow him on twitter @strawberryluna.
Amanda represents the softer side of art by creating characters that envoke a sense of history, not only by the techniques in which she create them, but by their somewhate sullen ... perhaps lost expressions. She's been in a variety of shows, most recently the Winter Salon at Stranger Factory. You can check out more of Amanda's work at amandalouise.com and follow her on twitter @amandaspayd.
