I primarily work with river rocks, glass marbles and polymer clay. I like working with polymer clay because it stays soft until cured in an oven. My favorite brand is Fimo because it works really well for caning (aka millefiori). This technique allows me to create designs that repeat throughout blocks of clay. I cut slices of this clay and run them through a pasta machine (it’s permanently set for lasagna) to make the slices a uniform thickness. The result is that I am able to reproduce an effect for multiple projects while still giving each one it’s own special personality. All of my creatures have been created using this technique although some designs are more detailed than others.
